6 C's
SNAP Parent Carer Forum (SNAP PCF) has repeatedly highlighted concerns about poor communication and its negative impact on parent carers. After a Test the Temperature Survey, Central Bedfordshire Council invited SNAP PCF to run a workshop in April 2024 with local professionals, including Central Bedfordshire Council, BMLK ICB, and health partners. The goal was to discuss these concerns and work together on solutions. As a result, the Service Director of Education and SEND asked all services to create a Commitment Statement based on SNAP PCF’s 6 C’s.
What Are the 6 C’s?
The 6 C’s are shared values designed to improve SEND services and allow parent carers to hold professionals to account. These are:
- Communication – open, transparent dialogue, active listening, clear & respectful communication.
- Co-production – equal partners, involvement in decision-making.
- Care – Empathy & compassion, prioritise well-being, tailored approach for individual needs.
- Consistency – reliability and uniformity, clear standards & protocols, regular evaluation & improvements.
- Clarity – clear objectives & instructions, minimise ambiguity, clear guidance on roles & responsibilities.
- Commitment – dedication & perseverance, leading by example, a culture of accountability & recognition.
Heads of Services across the SEND Local Area Partnership have co-produced Commitment Statements reflecting these values, showing how they plan to improve and work more effectively with families.
